It's not that I'm tired, it's that I feel empty. A vague sense of emptiness, like I'm constantly running, but I don't know why I'm running.

This state has a name: pseudovitality.

Outwardly busy, inwardly empty. Body moves, but feeling is absent. You accomplish many things, but don't truly live in any of them.

This isn't laziness, it's not a lack of effort, it's not your problem. It's a state of being systematically created by modern life.

How does pseudovitrility occur?

Modern life operates on a very powerful logic: efficiency.

Divide time into the smallest units, and ensure each unit is productive. Multitask, handling multiple inputs simultaneously. The faster the switchover speed, the more productive you are. Stopping is a waste.

In this logic, something is sacrificed: the time to feel.

It's not about feeling "whether it's finished or not," but about feeling "what this means to me." It's not about feeling "what's next," but about feeling "where I am now."

When the time for sensation is compressed to almost zero, the body continues to function, but the "you" inside begins to slowly become disconnected from the body.

Your body is doing things, but you're not.

This is the root of pseudo-vitality—not physical exhaustion, but the loss of a sense of existence.

The body is the gateway back to oneself.

The solution to pseudo-vitality is not "doing less," not "taking a vacation," and not "finding meaning in life"—although these all have their value.

The most direct solution is to return to the body.

This sounds simple, but for many people it is a very unfamiliar thing.

Because the core of pseudo-vitality lies in its disconnect from the body. Your attention is constantly external—on to-do lists, on other people's expectations, on screens, on the next thing. The body, as a source of information, has long been shut down.

When you return to your body, you're not just returning to your muscles and bones. You're returning to your senses—where is my breath right now? Are my shoulders tense or relaxed? Can I feel the floor with the soles of my feet?

These seemingly small perceptions are ways for you to reconnect with yourself.

What did Chanrou do?

Chanrou is not a relaxation class, not a meditation class, and not psychotherapy.

But it has one very special characteristic: it requires your full presence.

The graceful movements of Chanrou are three-dimensional, spiral, and multi-directional. It doesn't allow for distraction—because if you are, the movements lose their fluidity, become stiff, and lose their rhythm. The nervous system must be continuously engaged, constantly perceiving, and constantly adjusting.

This requirement of "being present" has a direct effect on pseudo-vitality: it pulls you out of your mind and brings you back into your body.

It's not about forcing you to "focus" through willpower, but about designing the movements themselves so that you can't help but be present.

Breathing is the most direct antidote to pseudovitality.

Pseudovitality has a very consistent physical characteristic: shallow breathing.

When you are in a state of pseudo-vigor, your breathing usually stops in the upper chest, is short and rapid, and hardly reaches the abdomen. This is a breathing pattern that is dominated by the sympathetic nervous system for a long time—the body thinks it is still dealing with a threat, so its breathing remains in a "ready for battle" state.

This breathing pattern makes it difficult to truly experience the present moment. Because experiencing requires the involvement of the parasympathetic nervous system—the body needs to be in a sufficiently safe and relaxed state to truly feel what is happening in the present moment.

The gentle breathing exercise brings the breath back to the diaphragm. The abdomen expands during inhalation and contracts slowly during exhalation. This deep breathing directly stimulates the vagus nerve, allowing the parasympathetic nervous system to take over.

When the parasympathetic nervous system takes over, something very important happens: you begin to feel yourself.

It's not about whether I've completed the task or not, but about feeling "I'm here now".

Rhythm is the solution to combat fragmentation.

Another characteristic of pseudo-vitality is the fragmentation of attention.

Your attention is constantly shifting—from one notification to another, from one conversation to another, from one task to another. Each shift requires the nervous system to reorient, expending a little energy and leaving a residual state of activation.

Over time, the nervous system remains in a state of mild overactivation—not doing anything, but constantly preparing to switch to the next thing.

Chanrou's movements were graceful and rhythmic.

It's not a mechanical repetition of beats, but an organic, flowing rhythm—like ocean waves, with its own ebb and flow and cycles. As your attention follows this rhythm, fragmented states begin to integrate.

It's not about forcing attention to focus, but about allowing attention to have a rhythm that can be followed, letting it naturally move from scattered to focused.

The "clear-headedness" that many people describe after Chanrou's course is exactly this effect—not because the problem is solved, but because attention is refocused and the nervous system returns from fragmentation to integration.

From "Doing" to "Existing"

This is Chanrou's deepest response to pseudovitality.

Modern life constantly reinforces the value of "doing"—your value lies in what you have done, what you have accomplished, and what you have created. "Existence" itself has no output and no meaning.

Chanrou's practice created a space that made "existence" possible.

It's not about doing nothing, but about allowing yourself to feel the act of doing. Allow each breath to be a complete experience, allow each movement to be conscious, and allow this moment to exist without needing to exist for the next.

This kind of "existential doing" is the complete opposite of pseudo-vitality.

False vitality is: I am doing it, but I am not.

Chanrou's invitation is: I'm doing it, and I'm here.

No need to solve all the problems, just come back.

Pseudo-vitality is a complex modern problem with roots in work culture, social pressure, and the technological environment—things that cannot be solved by a single lecture.

But Chanrou can do one very specific thing:

It can bring you back.

Return to your body, return to your breath, return to the feeling of what is happening right now. Even if it's just for an hour, even if it's just for that one hour, you are truly in it.

That hour of being "present" will leave a trace. It will let you know what that feeling is like. It will make you, at some point after class, suddenly feel your feet on the floor, feel your breath truly entering your abdomen, feel that this moment is enough.

That feeling is completely different from pseudo-vitality.

That feeling, it was like being truly alive.

You appear busy on the outside, but feel empty on the inside—this isn't a failure; it's your body telling you that it needs to be brought back.

Chanrou, is the road home.

[36

post-5437","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-36
["GET
