Just like machine parts, the more you use them, the more severe the wear and tear. Therefore, to protect your joints, less movement is better than more movement.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This belief leads many people to reduce walking when their knees feel slightly uncomfortable, stop exercising when their hips feel a little tight, and worry that every movement is accelerating the damage when a doctor says, &quot;Your cartilage is a little worn down.&quot;<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But this belief has a fundamental problem:<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It treats the body like a machine, but the body is not a machine.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Machines and bodies have a key difference<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Machine parts only wear down after use; they don&#039;t self-repair. A gear used 10,000 times will be more worn than one used 1,000 times.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#039;s not how the body works.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The body possesses a capability that machines lack: self-repair and adaptation. Under appropriate stimulation, the body does not merely maintain itself, but rebuilds\u2014bones become denser, muscles become stronger, cartilage retains its thickness, and ligaments retain their resilience.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reconstruction process requires one condition: appropriate load and action.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without load and without movement, the body will not rebuild\u2014it will degenerate.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cartilage, without a blood supply<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of the most important anatomical facts for understanding joint health.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Articular cartilage is the smooth tissue that covers the joint surfaces of bones. It has no direct blood supply\u2014its nutrition comes entirely from synovial fluid.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How does synovial fluid flow? Through the movement of the joints.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a joint moves, synovial fluid is propelled within the joint cavity, flowing over the surface of the cartilage, bringing oxygen and nutrients into the cartilage and removing metabolic waste. This process is similar to a sponge being repeatedly squeezed in water\u2014the movement expels waste, releasing it, and then fresh fluid is drawn in.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the joint is not in place, this cycle stops. The cartilage does not receive nourishment, slowly dehydrates, thins, and gradually loses its elasticity and cushioning ability.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inaction is the true killer of soft bones. It&#039;s not about using them, but about not using them.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bones need pressure to maintain their density.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Osteoporosis is one of the most common bone problems in modern people.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many people believe that bone loss is an inevitable consequence of aging and insufficient calcium intake. However, research clearly shows that one of the most important causes of bone loss is a lack of weight-bearing exercise.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bones need pressure to maintain their density. When bones bear weight, bone cells sense this mechanical stimulation and initiate the bone remodeling process\u2014osteoclasts remove old bone tissue, osteoblasts build new bone tissue, and the entire bone is constantly being renewed and strengthened.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Astronauts experience weightlessness in space, and upon returning to Earth a few months later, they may have lost more than 10% of their bone density\u2014not due to aging, but because their bones did not receive the mechanical stimulation they needed.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using bones won&#039;t make them weaker, but rather stronger.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So why do some people experience increased pain the more they move?<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If movement is good, why do many people experience more joint pain the more they move?<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem is not &quot;movement&quot;, but &quot;how to move&quot;.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Incorrect action patterns<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a joint is subjected to load under improper alignment, the pressure is concentrated in a localized area of the joint surface, rather than being evenly distributed. This concentrated pressure does indeed accelerate localized wear.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When running, the knees collapse inward, putting disproportionate pressure on the inside of the knee joint with every step. When squatting, excessive spinal flexion causes concentrated pressure on the posterior intervertebral discs. These are not problems of &quot;moving too much,&quot; but rather problems of &quot;moving incorrectly.&quot;<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lack of multi-directional movement<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joints need to be used within a full, multi-directional range of motion to ensure that the entire joint surface is evenly nourished by synovial fluid.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you only do linear, repetitive movements\u2014only running, only forward and backward squats\u2014certain areas of the joint surfaces are constantly used, while other areas are never touched.
