In GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®'s practice, "the same movement, different interpretations" is actually a very fascinating thing. Even with the same course content, different teachers will present completely different levels and directions due to differences in life experience, feelings and observations.
For students who are new to GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®, taking classes with different teachers can help them find the practice methods that they can understand and digest most quickly; while for students who are already familiar with the routine, changing teachers and perspectives is an opportunity to let go of habits and explore anew.
It's easy to develop "habits" in practice—feeling that a certain sequence or movement should be done this way. But the core spirit of GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® is precisely to lead us away from fixed physical and mental patterns. If we only practice in ways we are familiar with, we may seem to be making progress, but we may actually be quietly falling into new limitations.
Different teachers lead you down different paths, which may feel unfamiliar at first, but it is precisely because of this unfamiliarity that you need to listen and learn again, making it easier to discover new possibilities. Sometimes, the body needs a little "surprise."
So when attending group classes, try to be curious, open-minded, and follow the teachers' steps. You might be surprised to find that you have more possibilities. And the real reward of this practice will be the moment your horizons are broadened.
