With so many training institutions like GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®, how should I choose?

Once you decide to pursue the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® teacher training path, the next question immediately arises:

Where can I learn?

More and more studios in Taiwan are offering GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®-related teacher training, with many options available in Taipei alone. However, not every GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® training program is the same—choosing the right training institution will directly affect the depth of your learning and the quality of your future teaching.

This article provides you with several truly useful criteria for judgment.

First, confirm: Is it an officially certified training program?

This is the first and most important question.

GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® is a methodology with a complete international certification system, managed globally by GYROTONIC SALES CORP. Officially recognized teacher training must be led by qualified Pre-Trainers or Master Trainers, and the course content and assessment standards comply with international norms.

If a studio claims to offer "GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Training" but the instructors are not officially certified Pre-Trainers, then the content and quality of the training cannot be guaranteed—nor can it help you obtain internationally recognized certification.

The way to confirm is simple: go to gyrotonic.com Check the official website to confirm the certification status and qualification level of the instructor.

Choose the system that suits you.

GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® has two systems, and its teacher training also follows two paths:

GYROTONIC®—using professional equipment such as the Pulley Tower, provides personalized training in one-on-one or small group settings. It requires a high level of skill and is suitable for those seeking in-depth, precise movement and personalized instruction.

GYROKINESIS® Mat Yoga – No equipment required, performed on a chair and yoga mat, suitable for leading larger group classes. Low entry barrier, ideal for those wanting to build a foundation or lead group classes.

The two systems complement each other, and further study will reveal that they reinforce each other.

Ask clearly about the complete structure of the training.

Good training is not just about giving you a certificate after an intensive course.

A few particularly worthwhile questions to ask:

After the pre-training, are there experienced instructors available for consultation and feedback during the internship? Does the studio provide equipment rental to ensure you have ample practice opportunities during your internship? Will the instructor continue to support your growth after the course ends?

These "after-sales services" are often more important than the courses themselves for novice coaches.

Go and see the classroom environment in person.

GYROTONIC® training relies heavily on original equipment, so the condition of the training facility directly impacts your learning quality. It's recommended to visit the facility before enrolling. GYROKINESIS® mat training only requires a chair and a yoga mat, but it's still advisable to confirm that the officially specified specifications are being used.

Several details worth noting:

Are the equipment genuine original equipment (Pulley Tower, etc.) and in good maintenance condition? Is the ratio of trainees to equipment reasonable? Ideally, each piece of equipment should serve two to three trainees. Is the classroom space sufficient, and are the lighting and ventilation good? GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® emphasizes sensory experience and flow; a quiet and comfortable environment can help you focus more on building your inner senses.

Convenient transportation is also important. During intensive training, the daily commute to and from the classroom is a significant burden – make sure the studio is near a subway station so you can focus your energy on practice during your intense study period.

Whether or not students can stay in the classroom to practice before and after class is something many people don't think about, but it actually has a significant impact. During intensive training, being able to stay after class to review the day's movements is one of the most effective ways to accelerate neural learning. Some studios ask students to leave after class, while others allow students to continue practicing in the space—it's worth confirming this before enrolling.

Details determine whether you can truly relax.

There's one thing that many people only notice when they arrive at the scene: the condition of the restrooms.

This is no small matter. When out and about, the thought of using an unfamiliar restroom always brings a sense of unease—the cleanliness of the toilet, the smell of the air, whether the floor is dry, and the tidiness of the sink. These seemingly minor details actually have a profound impact on our physical and mental well-being.

A space that takes the bathroom to the extreme must also know how to take precise care of your body.

AT Field maintains extremely high standards in environmental maintenance. Air conditioning is regularly cleaned to ensure air quality; toilets are disinfected daily, countertops and faucets are meticulously cleaned, and odor management is rigorous. We believe that only when the environment is clean, pure, and reassuring enough can bodily sensations and energy flow truly unfold.

GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®'s practice requires you to let down your guard and truly engage with your body's sensations. And all of this begins the moment you step into the space.

Go and experience a few classes first.

Before formally enrolling in the training, try to attend a few individual classes at that studio first.

It's not just about feeling the movements, but about experiencing the culture of the space—how do the teachers treat the students? Is the teaching language guiding or directive? Is there an atmosphere in the space that makes you want to slow down and truly feel your body?

GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®'s teaching philosophy emphasizes that experience precedes understanding and that each person's body is unique. A good training institution allows you to experience this culture in individual classes.

Be a good student first, then pursue teacher training.

It is recommended to practice regularly for six months to a year before formally entering teacher training.

You can only teach what you've truly experienced—if you haven't truly entered that state of flow yourself, it's difficult to guide students to experience it. Treat this period as a foundational phase, allowing your body to truly establish a gentle, perceptive awareness, before deciding whether to embark on the path of teaching.

What you're actually looking for is these

Choosing a training institution is not just about choosing a course, but about choosing an environment and context that will influence your teaching direction for the next few years.

A pre-trainer that suits your current situation, a training institution that is willing to continue supporting you after the course ends, and an environment that allows you to study deeply with peace of mind—these three things are more important than any advertising copy.

It's worth spending time doing your research.

Henry Hsieh|GYROKINESIS® Pre-Training

After exploring various areas of physical exercise, I joined the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® system in 2013. During my time living in the UK, I studied closely with Master Trainers Dylan Elmore and Cherie Dehaven, and received personal training from several first-generation GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® masters, including Debra Rose, Juergen Bamberger, Erika Hassan, and Mariarosa Guglielmi. In 2019 and 2025, I will travel to Germany to study directly with GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® founder Juliu Horvath.

Currently, she is one of the few people in Taiwan who holds dual training instructor qualifications for both GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®. To date, she has trained more than 300 pre-training students and is frequently invited to teach in Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hong Kong, dedicated to carrying on the spirit of founder Juliu and promoting the Chanju movement.

Wei Shan Lai|GYROTONIC® Pre-Training

A graduate of the Department of Zoology and Master of Animal Physiology at National Taiwan University, she has lived in the UK, Japan, and the US for over a decade. She obtained a dance degree from the Laban College of Music and Dance in London and studied drama at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. She has dedicated many years to dance performance and choreography, and her works have been performed in Taipei, London, Tokyo, Osaka, and San Francisco.

I first encountered GYROTONIC® in 2014 and felt my deep muscle groups being subtly awakened, leaving a lasting impression on me. I studied under Debra Rose—the first-generation teacher training master of GYROTONIC® founder Juliu Horvath—and after moving back to Taiwan in 2019, I devoted myself entirely to teaching GYROTONIC®. I am currently a GYROTONIC® certified instructor and pre-trainer. I have participated in advanced courses on iliopsoas principles, physical therapy series on pelvic and shoulder girdle belts, dancer applications, runner applications, and osteopathic therapy. My passion for exploring mind and body extends to areas such as Feldstein's Mind-Body Techniques, myofascitis, Alexander Techniques, and Linkletter vocal system training.
